I own several of Tom's books. They are well written. I do own his previous book, "Chart patterns after the buy", which is a good book.This new revised book of patterns, weighing in at 4.5 pounds and 1,200 pages, reads like a "late to turn in" college report with tons of data, but inadequate statistical data reduction. There is absolutely nothing in the way of how the data is dispersed (eg, variance, or visually, a histogram). This is essential to seeing and understanding the risk associated with the fit of the data.Some patterns had comparisons made over 3 different decades, but no methodology was provided as to the size of the data sets for each decade or the market cap of the stocks, or whether any of them were used over all the decades.It would have been interesting if he had selected the high performing stocks making up the Nasdaq 100 (1985-2020) in demonstrating if those patterns and opportunities changed over time.Additionally, he approaches some established patterns created by other people (eg, the classic cup with handle) and sets up the pattern with his own pattern searching criteria. This greatly diminished my interest as i want to know just how effective this particular pattern was as created by the originator.Overall, I am disappointed. $110 is a lot of money for an unfinished school paper. Nobody trades 100 different patterns. We stick with the patterns we believe consistently produce a great ROI. I bought this to confirm with conclusive, well researched information showing the patterns with high returns AND tight variances.Stick with his earlier versions.
